What a beauty, this magnificent Chakki table! This table offers endless decorating possibilities due to its generous size! The word "chakki" comes from Hindi and refers to a traditional hand mill used to grind grains, such as wheat, into flour. A "chakki table" could refer to a table designed to serve as a support for a chakki mill. These tables are often used in traditional kitchens or bakeries where manual methods are still used for grinding grains. Originally, there is a hole in the table where the millstone rotates and the grain falls out through the small opening on the side. For Western use, the tables are therefore made solid, with the hole covered by a wooden plate. Chakki tables can have various shapes and sizes, depending on regional traditions and the specific needs of the user. They are usually sturdily built to safely support the hand mill during grain grinding. The use of chakki mills and tables is still widespread in some cultures, but in many modern kitchens, electric mills and other automated devices are more commonly found for grinding grains.
